Simon Cherere Murathe is a skilled Geospatial Engineer and GIS specialist with over 7 years of professional experience applying advanced geospatial technologies to climate change adaptation, infrastructure vulnerability assessment, and resilience planning across East Africa.
He has strong expertise in spatial data modelling, climate hazard mapping, infrastructure exposure analysis, and geospatial database development, with a particular focus on how climate risks affect critical infrastructure systems such as energy, water, transport, ICT, schools, and health facilities. Simon is currently part of a Global Centre on Adaptation (GCA) – University of Nairobi collaboration, supporting the quantification of climate impacts and the scaling up of climate adaptation strategies in Kenya and the wider region.
Simon has worked across both development and private-sector environments, delivering high-resolution climate hazard datasets, mapping climate hotspots, and performing spatial analyses that inform decision-making on infrastructure resilience and service continuity. His previous experience includes consultancy work in remote sensing, photogrammetry, cadastral surveys, drone mapping, and web-based geospatial applications, as well as enterprise GIS solutions for utilities and transport sectors.
With a strong academic foundation in Geospatial Engineering and GIS (University of Nairobi) and hands-on experience using cutting-edge tools—including satellite imagery, drones, cloud-based GIS platforms, and AI-enabled spatial analytics—Simon brings a highly practical, solutions-oriented approach to climate resilience planning.
In this course, Simon supports participants to translate climate data into actionable spatial insights, strengthening their ability to assess vulnerability, prioritize adaptation investments, and design evidence-based climate resilience interventions.
