Dr. Calvince Ouko Othoo is an accomplished Environment and Climate Change Scientist with over 10 years of experience in climate adaptation, resilience building, and environmental sustainability across Kenya and the wider region. He brings strong expertise in climate risk and vulnerability assessments, resilience strategy development, GIS-based environmental analysis, and stakeholder engagement.
Dr. Othoo has worked extensively with national governments, international development partners, NGOs, and academic institutions, contributing to high-impact, donor-funded climate initiatives. Notably, he has served as a climate expert on World Bank–funded Urban Resilience Strategies for five major Kenyan cities (Nairobi, Mombasa, Kisumu, Nakuru, and Eldoret), supported biodiversity and socio-economic assessments for Wetlands International, and contributed to Kenya’s Long-Term Low Carbon Emission Development Strategy (LTS) under the Ministry of Environment and Forestry.
Currently a Postdoctoral Fellow at the University of Nairobi, Dr. Othoo is actively involved in applied climate adaptation research while mentoring young professionals and supporting infrastructure resilience initiatives. He is also a seasoned trainer and facilitator, having led community-based climate adaptation and resilience trainings for universities, NGOs, county governments, and development organizations.
Dr. Othoo brings to the course a rare combination of academic rigor, policy insight, and hands-on field experience, making complex climate concepts practical and actionable for professionals working in climate, development, and resilience programming.
