UNES PARTICIPATING AT THE NAIROBI INTERNATIONAL TRADE FAIR (NITF) THAT IS RUNNING FROM 2ND-8TH OCTOBER, 2017 AT THE ASK SHOW GROUND, NAIROBI COUNTY

The Nairobi International Trade Fair (NITF) 2017 is running under a new theme, “Promoting Innovation and Technology in Agriculture and Trade” in the ASK Show Grounds at Jamhuri Park in Nairobi County. It is running from 2nd -8th October, 2017. It has brought about hundreds of local/regional exhibitors and international exhibitors from diverse industries to benefit the citizen and esteemed customer.

UNES is taking part in this year’s ASK Show by showcasing its varied products and services ranging from Consultancy services, Bookstores, Hospitality, Medical and other commercial initiatives. The networks created will open door for further business opportunities with its clients and esteemed customers.

UNES LTD PARTICIPATES IN THE KABARAK UNIVERSITY BOOK FAIR AND EXHIBITION HELD ON 13-15TH SEPTEMBER, 2017 AT KABARAK UNIVERSITY GROUND IN NAKURU COUNTY

UNES LTD participated in the just concluded Book Fair and Exhibition organized by Kabarak University on 13-15th September, 2017 at Kabarak University Ground in Nakuru County. It brought about major competitors under one roof where the Deans, Head of Departments, Librarian, Staff and Students got to identity and purchase books of their choice and even recommend the much needed titles to their libraries and departments. UNES had a cutting edge and made a lasting parting shot when it displayed and showcased not only bookstore products but other solution services especially Consultancy, Hospitality, Dental Services and other commercial initiatives as part of its service delivery and customer experience. It extended its market share and communicated a strong presence across the Rift Valley Region with a view of business development and growth.

Traditionally, exposition (expo) or exhibition are normally organized so that companies in a specific industry can come together and showcase or demonstrate their latest products and services, meet with industry partners and customers, study activities of rivals, and examine recent market trends and opportunities.

Kabarak University Book fair and Exhibition was one of its kinds and this marked the beginning of a partnership that will see UNES LTD supply different titles to the institutions including other products and services and extend the consumer patronage in the entire region.

The Corporate Training for Kenya Wildlife Services (KWS) Senior Staff on Communication Crisis organized by UNES at the Lukenya Gateway from 6th-8th September, 2017.

UNES Consultancy organized a three day off-shore corporate training to the Kenya Wildlife Services (KWS) Senior Staff on Communication Crisis. It was led by lead consultant Dr. Hezron Mugambi and Leah Muchemi both from School of Journalism University of Nairobi (UON). The training runs from 6th -8th September, 2017 at Lukenya Gateway Arthi River.

It is a common knowledge that a Crisis can have a negative effect on brand image. The Press Briefing led by National Disaster Management Unit Deputy Director Pius Masai on Moi Girls High School inferno at Chiromo Funeral Parlour on September 5, 2017.

A team of pathologists led by Government Pathologist Dr Johansen Oduor and officials from Government Chemist took specimens from family members of nine students who died during the inferno. Earlier Tuesday morning, the relatives DNA samples were collected ahead of a two weeks postmortem exercise, whose outcome will help them identify their loved ones as explained by National Disaster Management Unit Deputy Director Pius Masai. The fire is said to have started from the cubicle before it quickly spread to adjacent ones and eventually destroyed the entire dormitory housing more than 300 Form One students on the wee hour of Saturday 2nd September. CONTRACT SIGNING & INCEPTION MEETING BETWEEN UNES AND THE REGIONAL CENTER FOR MAPPING OF RESOURCES FOR DEVELOPMENT (RCMRD) ON 22/8/2017

UNES is to offer Consultancy services for feasibility studies & development of conceptual master plans. The general objective is to establish competitive modern business parks for the Regional Centre for Mapping of Resources for Development (RCMRD).

The contract signing and inception meeting took place at the Regional Center for Mapping of Recources for Development (RCMRD) offices located along Kasarani Mwiki road, opposite Kasarani police station off Thika Superhighway on exit 8.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

THE AUTOMATED REFERENCING OPEN PROGRAM TRAINING CONDUCTED BY UNES IN JOINT PARTNERSHIP WITH THE UNIVERSITY OF NAIROBI LIBRARY ON THE 21ST JUNE, 2017 IN THE UNIVERSITY OF NAIROBI JOMO KENYATTA MEMORIAL LIBRARY TRAINING CENTER

UNES in joint partnership with the UON Library conducted an Automated Referencing Training on an Open Program basis. It targeted the corporate clients from different organizations and it is a three day corporate training program that runs through 21st June, 2017- 23rd June, 2017 at the University of Nairobi’s Jomo Kenyatta Memorial Library Training Center in Nairobi. The 1st phase of the training covers the Overview of various Referencing Softwares: Mendely and ZOTERO with the applicability and practical aspects.

Laying foundation of Koitalel Samoei University of Science and Technology

President Kenyatta laid the foundation stone of the Koitalel Samoei University College. Koitalel was the supreme chief of the Nandi. The university college, which starts off as a constituent of the University of Nairobi, will be constructed at the cost of Sh3.4 billion.

1. Introduction

University of Nairobi Enterprises and Services (UNES) Limited in collaboration with The Library Department will be running Short Course Training from 21st to 23rd June 2017 on the following topics:-

1) AUTOMATED REFERENCING SYSTEM to be conducted on 21st June 2017
2) PLAGIARISM AND THE USE OF TURNITIN DETECTION SOFTWARE to be conducted on 22nd June 2017
3) PUBLISHING IN HIGH IMPACT JOURNALS to be conducted on 23rd June 2017
2. Target audience
 The course targets Researchers, Academics, and Postgraduate students, Librarians, Authors and Managers.

3. Course Background

The emergences of automated citation and referencing software have now made it easier for all those who venture into scholarly writing. Writing and presenting quality academic papers take time. There are diverse online open source software that make citation and referencing a bliss. There is therefore need for researchers and scholars to have the requisite search and citation skills for effective research output and adherence to academic integrity.

Plagiarism is considered a major academic malpractice, therefore the Automated Referencing and Plagiarism Detection short course training, is aimed at addressing the vice. The short course also intends to build the capacity of the participants in terms of equipping them with necessary skills to effectively cite to avoid plagiarism.

Publish or perish holds true in most research and academic environments, but a single publication in a high impact journal can make a huge impact on one’s academic career path. The course will equip researchers and postgraduate students on writing skills and on how to publish in high impact journals and books

4. Objectives of the short course training are to
1) Equip participants with citing and referencing skills using Zotero and Mendeley Bibliographic Management software
2) Train participants on how to use Turnitin to detect plagiarism.
3) Enhance academic writing.
4) Equip participants on how to publish in high impact commercial and open access journals and books

5. Learning outcomes:

At the end of the short course training, the participants should:

1) Download, install and use Zotero and Mendeley to cite and reference their work.
2) Produce quality scholarly write-ups.
3) Publish scholarly articles and book chapters in high impact journals and books

Course structure:

The training will cover the following broad thematic areas: Zotero, Mendeley, Turnitin and publishing in high impact journals.

Mode of instruction:

Presentations will be delivered through PowerPoint presentations, interactive sessions and practical. Participants will be required to have an internet enabled computer.

Duration:

1) The course will take place from 21st to 23rd June 2017.
2) Participants can select to attend any or all of the three courses.

Venue: Computer Lab, Jomo Kenyatta Memorial Library, UoN.

Cost: Ksh. 7,000 per course (Including Meals)

UNES PARTICIPATES IN THE UON OPEN DAY FROM THURSDAY 25TH -SATURDAY 27TH MAY, 2017 AT THE UON MAIN CAMPUS NAIROBI

UNES participated in the UON Open Day under the theme: ” Quality and Innovative Education to Sustain Individual Growth” . It was held on Thursday 25th -Saturday 27th May, 2017 at the UON Main Campus Nairobi. UNES showcased the products and services especially the commercial enterprises that connect UON to the commercial entities as well as corporate clients in tandem with the theme. These entail UNES Consultancy, UNES Bookstores, Hospitality and Dental Plaza where clients inquest were provided and the details taken for future corporate engagement.
