1. IGUS ASSISTANT COORDINATOR: UNES/CO/IGU AC/05/2018
JOB DESCRIPTION:
Responsible for selling and marketing of IGUs’ products and services to enhance business performance of the Income Generating Units (IGUs). IGU Assistant Coordinator will be reporting to the IGUs Coordinator. The incumbent shall be tasked with the following responsibilities:
i. Implementing the developed Sale Strategies and meeting target sales
ii. Development and up-dating the IGUs’ e-Marketing platforms and Websites
iii. Establishing relationships management with current and potential clients for developing new accounts
iv. Preparing sales schedules and action plans for effective market penetration
v. Preparing sales materials for marketing events, trade shows and forums where IGUs’ products & services are showcased and discussed.
vi. Preparing marketing reports (daily call reports, weekly & monthly work plans), analyzing sales strategies, and managing customer orders and contracts.
vii. Monitoring competition by gathering current marketplace information on pricing, products, delivery schedules, merchandising techniques, etc.
viii. Recommends changes in products, service, and policy by evaluating results and competitive developments.
ix. Resolves customer complaints by investigating problems; developing solutions; preparing reports and making recommendations.

JOB SPECIFICATION:
i. A Bachelor’s degree in Business Management, Economics or Social Sciences or its equivalent
ii. Two (2) years’ experience in a related field
iii. Ability to prepare Performance Analysis Reports
iv. Strong Communication and Organization Skills
v. Computer Literate
vi. Ability to design marketing materials is an added advantage

What is PrEP, Who Should Use it, How to Use it, where to get in Kenya

 HIV prevalence in Kenya is relatively high. According to the UNAIDS, there are 1.5 million persons in Kenya living with the HIV virus and 400,000 of them are not aware they are infected.

This means a lot more are at risk of contracting the virus and it is therefore very necessary that people get tested to know their status.Knowing one’s status is beneficial for both HIV negative and positive individuals.

Knowing you are HIV positive will put you in a position to start treatment and adopt interventions to prolong life.

Knowing you are HIV negative also places you in a better position to adopt preventative measures that will minimize chances of acquiring the virus.One way of reducing chances of getting infected with the HIV virus is through taking PrEP medicine.

PrEP is short for Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis.Roll out of PrEP in Kenya only began in May (2017); making it the second country in Africa to adopt use of PrEP outside of research.Hence, there is a lot of misinformation about PrEPs, what they do, who should use them, how to use them.

PrEP medicine prevents HIV from copying itself in the body once one has been exposed. Therefore, it is only effective when used by HIV negative individuals.

PrEP is especially beneficial for HIV negative people with a high risk of contracting HIV AIDS; such as HIV negative individuals in sexual relationships with HIV positive partners.PrEP is also beneficial for drug users with a high risk of contracting the HIV from sharing needles.

PrEP pills should be taken every day; one pill a day. The medicine is effective after at least one week of use.

According to UNAIDS, the success rate for PrEP in preventing acquisition of the HIV virus from sex is 90 percent. Success rate in preventing HIV acquisition from drug use is 70 percent.

PrEP does not substitute the benefits of using other preventive measures, such as the use of condoms. In the same breath, it is worth noting PrEP medicine does not prevent other STDs.

Research has shown that long-term use of PrEP does not have harmful effects. Some users may however experience mild side effects such as nausea.

PrEP medicine is readily available in most pharmacies around the country.

UNES took part in the UON Annual Tree Planting Day at Prof. Wangari Maathai Institute, College of Agriculture and Veterinary Science held on the April 6, 2018

UNES took part in the UON Annual Tree Planting Day as a special event as it embraces Corporate Social Responsibility that strives to take care of the environment, neighboring community and other stakeholders through Environmental Sustainability Initiative. UNES is committed to Environmental Protection and Conservation that is encompassed in all its actions abiding by the rule of law in line with the Environmental Management and Coordination Act.

The event was collaboratively consolidated by University of Nairobi as an Annual Tree Planting Day that saw over 10,000 Tree Seedlings Planted between April 3 – 6, 2018. It was climaxed on April 6, 2018, when 6,500 trees were planted at Wangari Maathai Campus at the College of Agriculture and Veterinary Sciences.

The occasion was graced by the Chief Guest, Prof. Japheth Ntiba, the Permanent Secretary for Higher Education, Ministry of Education. Among the guest were Dr. Vijoo Ratansi, Chancellor UoN, Prof. Peter F. Mbithi, Vice Chancellor UoN who both paid tribute to the late Wangari Maathai and hailed her for the exemplary plight that she displayed over the years in conserving the environment. Prof. Kiama Principle CAVS and other Unit Heads were also present.

The UNES Staff and Management were sensitized on the (PPADA Act, 2015) to lubricate the smooth running of the operation processes and to understand and fully apply the PPADA Act, 2015 with a focus on the customer service and delivery while taking into account emerging market trend and issues.

The Public Procurement has evolved from a crude system with no regulations to an orderly legally regulated procurement system. Prior to enactment of the Public Procurement and Asset Disposal Act, 2015 to give effect to Article 227 of the Constitution, public procurement was governed by various legislation, which included the Public Procurement and Disposal Act, 2005 and Regulations 2006, operational manuals and circulars.

UNES Consultancy in partnership with the Heart Center Conducted ECHO for LIFE Training Programme to the Doctors from Different Hospitals held on 5th-9th March 2018 at the Executive Boardroom, Kolobot Drive Nairobi

UNES Consultancy in partnership with Heart Center conducted ECHO for LIFE Training Programme to the Doctors from different Hospitals across the Regions. Echocardiography is a non-invasive imaging techniques used in the diagnosis of diseases of cardiac structure and function. The technique is invaluable in the management of patients with heart disease, yet there are less than 20 well trained echo cardiographers in Kenya serving a population of over 45million. The purpose of the course is to increase the number of cardiographers in Kenya and efficiently improve the care of cardiac patients in the country.

The key topical areas covered were: Principle and physics of echocardiography, normal cardiac anatomy, and examination; M-Mode and 2-D echocardiography; Echo assessment systolic and diastolic function, basic and advanced haemodynamics; assessment of valvular and pericardial diseases; assessment of hypertensive/coronary heart disease and heart failure and finally the Echo data interpretation and report writing.

The Program was delivered through lucrative and enriching methodologies encompassing discussions, Lectures, presentations and Video demonstration.

The Training ran from 5th-9th March, 2018 at the Executive Boardroom, Kolobot Drive Nairobi.

UNES Participates in the National Project Launch Workshop held on February 2, 2018 at the Hilton Hotel, Nairobi

UNES participated in the joint workshop jointly organized by ERC and UN Environment to launch the global project “Integrating Electric 2 & 3 Wheelers into Existing Urban Transport Modes in Developing and Transitional Countries.” This is a project in which ERC has been nominated by the UN Environment to implement and is set to be completed in 2019. The project is supported by the International Climate Initiative (IKI) and it is anticipated that it will support the shift to electric 2 & 3 wheelers in developing countries and will encompass activities in several countries including Kenya. UNES is looking forward to entering into a contractual agreement with ERC as part of the implementing partners.

Presentations and discussions on implementing the global project and national activities under the project have been held during today’s project launch workshop. The UNES team led by Prof. James Nyang’aya, Prof.-Ing Ayub Gitau, Robert Mathenge and Stanley Ngache also made its presentation on “Overview of Motorization and Emissions in Kenya”. This was because UNES has previously implemented two related projects. First being a Pilot Project on the Global Fuel Economy Initiative in Kenya in 2013 and second, the Development of a Fuel Labelling and Feebate Program for Motor Vehicles in Kenya in 2015.
