1. SENIOR ACCOUNTANT-UNES/SA/07/17 (ONE POSITION)

Contract Duration: 3 Years

Reporting Relationship:

The incumbent shall report to the Chief Manager Finance & Administration

Position Summary:

The incumbent is responsible for providing technical support to achieve efficiency in the performance of accounting function

Duties and Responsibilities:

The duties and responsibilities shall include:

  1. Preparation of Management Accounts and Annual Financial statements.
  2. Monitoring the Bank reconciliations and review of the monthly bank reconciliation reports
  3. Management of staff payroll payments and consultant payment.
  4. Ensure full compliance with Statutory and Regulatory Payments and Returns.
  5. Budget Preparation, monitoring and reporting.
  6. Overseeing the company’s Financial Accounting, Monitoring and Reporting
  7. Coordination of internal and external financial and systems audits
  8. Cash flow Management and Reporting
  9. Set targets, mentor, monitor and evaluate the performance of employees in the department

Job Specification:

  1. Must possess a Bachelor of Commerce (Accounting Option)Degree or equivalent
  2. At least six (6) years experience 3 of which must be at Accountant Level.
  3. Possess CPA(K) or equivalent and be a registered member of ICPAK
  4. Good working knowledge of the Kenyan Tax Laws.
  5. Posses relevant Computer and analytical skills.
  6. Good communication and interpersonal skills.
  7. Hands-on experience in preparation of financial statements and handling of external audits
  8. Masters Degree will be an added advantage

2. EVENTS MANAGER- UNES/ARZ/EM/07/17 (ONE POSITION)

Contract Duration: 3 Years

Reporting Relationship:

The incumbent shall report to the Head Hospitality

Position Summary:

The incumbent shall be responsible for providing strategic direction, planning, coordinating and managing the Events Management Business line

Duties and Responsibilities:

The duties and responsibilities shall include:

  1. Develop and implement Events Management Business plan and Work Plans to support the achievement of the business objectives.
  2. Develop, manage and control the events management budget.
  3. Participate in the recruitment, training, target setting and evaluation of employee’s performance.
  4. Ensure accountability, proper storage and handling of all assets under your Control
  5. Planning and securing orders for trade shows/Exhibitions
  6. Planning, coordination and management of events which include set up of tents, linen, décor, lighting, vehicle fleet, equipment, entertainment and all other relevant logistics.
  7. Update management on new and latest technology and innovation on events Management
  8. Timely execution of events setup while working closely with the client to ensure expectations of event set up are met.
  9. Booking of event locations, halls and Equipment
  10. Work with the Marketing team to develop and implement marketing Strategies
  11. Foster collaborations and partnerships within the Industry
  12. Any other duties assigned by the Head Hospitality

Job Specification:

  1. Under graduate Degree in Events Management or related specialization
  2. Minimum of 5 years’ experience in Management of Events related to tents and décor in a décor Company
  3. Must have a successful track record of management of high end corporate Events
  4. Innovative, excellent communication, organizational and interpersonal Skills
  5. Ability to manage staff and external vendors in order to maximize productivity of the Section
  6. Ability to deliver under Pressure
  7. Excellent PR and Customer Service Skills
  8. Computer Literate.

3.  LEAD SYSTEM DEVELOPER (USAID HEALTHIT PROJECT) – UNES/DHIS2/07/17 (ONE POSITION)

Contract Duration: 2 Years

Reporting Relationship:

The incumbent shall report to the Deputy Chief of Party, Technical Services

Position Summary:

The Lead System Developer shall work closely with project stakeholders, other developers, quality assurance specialist and business analysts to design, develop, and maintain the HIS systems.

Duties and Responsibilities:

The duties and responsibilities shall be as follows:

  1. Utilize established development tools, guidelines and conventions to design, develop, and test HIS systems
  2. Enhance existing HIS systems by analyzing business requirements, preparing an action plan and identifying areas for modification and improvement
  3. Maintain the existing HIS assigned to you and by identifying and correcting software defects.
  4. Facilitate and contribute to HIS systems integration.
  5. Collaborate and share ideas with the developer team members.
  6. Learn and develop skills to keep abreast with new Technologies
  7. Conduct systematic HIS system testing and document these.
  8. Engage users and the technology team in order to prioritize system feature Requests
  9. Provide insight regarding usability and user experience to guide the development and impact of the products for our customers.
  10. Leverage knowledge and contribute to proper knowledge management within the Project
  11. Contribute to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.
  12. Develop and maintain both user and technical documentation for Systems
  13. Facilitate capacity Building
  14. Be willing to meet new challenges with enthusiasm and meet deadlines in fast paced Environment
  15. Review the technical development and maintenance work in terms of output, planning and budgeting in liaison with the DCOP – Technical
  16. Set Targets, mentor, monitor and evaluate the performance of software Developers
  17. Identify skill gaps within the team of developers and recommend the appropriate actions to the Management
  18. Undertake additional task that will be allocated the supervisor

Job Specification:

  1. Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or Software Engineering or Related specialization.
  2. A least 3 years’ experience in enterprise Software Development.
  3. Extensive experience with Java and Python programming languages coupled with practical experience with test-driven development and automated testing frameworks.
  4. Demonstrable proficiency in modern software development Frameworks or methodologies such as RAD, JAD, and DSDM
  5. Experience in the Kenya Health Sector with expert knowledge in DHIS2 and related systems will be an added advantage
  6. Good team Leader
  7. Ability to train the users on the developed systems.

THE AUTOMATED REFERENCING OPEN PROGRAM TRAINING CONDUCTED BY UNES IN JOINT PARTNERSHIP WITH THE UNIVERSITY OF NAIROBI LIBRARY ON THE 21ST JUNE, 2017 IN THE UNIVERSITY OF NAIROBI JOMO KENYATTA MEMORIAL LIBRARY TRAINING CENTER

UNES in joint partnership with the UON Library conducted an Automated Referencing Training on an Open Program basis. It targeted the corporate clients from different organizations and it is a three day corporate training program that runs through 21st June, 2017- 23rd June, 2017 at the University of Nairobi’s Jomo Kenyatta Memorial Library Training Center in Nairobi. The 1st phase of the training covers the Overview of various Referencing Softwares: Mendely and ZOTERO with the applicability and practical aspects.

Laying foundation of Koitalel Samoei University of Science and Technology

President Kenyatta laid the foundation stone of the Koitalel Samoei University College. Koitalel was the supreme chief of the Nandi. The university college, which starts off as a constituent of the University of Nairobi, will be constructed at the cost of Sh3.4 billion.

1. Introduction

University of Nairobi Enterprises and Services (UNES) Limited in collaboration with The Library Department will be running Short Course Training from 21st to 23rd June 2017 on the following topics:-

1) AUTOMATED REFERENCING SYSTEM to be conducted on 21st June 2017
2) PLAGIARISM AND THE USE OF TURNITIN DETECTION SOFTWARE to be conducted on 22nd June 2017
3) PUBLISHING IN HIGH IMPACT JOURNALS to be conducted on 23rd June 2017
2. Target audience
 The course targets Researchers, Academics, and Postgraduate students, Librarians, Authors and Managers.

3. Course Background

The emergences of automated citation and referencing software have now made it easier for all those who venture into scholarly writing. Writing and presenting quality academic papers take time. There are diverse online open source software that make citation and referencing a bliss. There is therefore need for researchers and scholars to have the requisite search and citation skills for effective research output and adherence to academic integrity.

Plagiarism is considered a major academic malpractice, therefore the Automated Referencing and Plagiarism Detection short course training, is aimed at addressing the vice. The short course also intends to build the capacity of the participants in terms of equipping them with necessary skills to effectively cite to avoid plagiarism.

Publish or perish holds true in most research and academic environments, but a single publication in a high impact journal can make a huge impact on one’s academic career path. The course will equip researchers and postgraduate students on writing skills and on how to publish in high impact journals and books

4. Objectives of the short course training are to
1) Equip participants with citing and referencing skills using Zotero and Mendeley Bibliographic Management software
2) Train participants on how to use Turnitin to detect plagiarism.
3) Enhance academic writing.
4) Equip participants on how to publish in high impact commercial and open access journals and books

5. Learning outcomes:

At the end of the short course training, the participants should:

1) Download, install and use Zotero and Mendeley to cite and reference their work.
2) Produce quality scholarly write-ups.
3) Publish scholarly articles and book chapters in high impact journals and books

Course structure:

The training will cover the following broad thematic areas: Zotero, Mendeley, Turnitin and publishing in high impact journals.

Mode of instruction:

Presentations will be delivered through PowerPoint presentations, interactive sessions and practical. Participants will be required to have an internet enabled computer.

Duration:

1) The course will take place from 21st to 23rd June 2017.
2) Participants can select to attend any or all of the three courses.

Venue: Computer Lab, Jomo Kenyatta Memorial Library, UoN.

It was held on Thursday 25th -Saturday 27th May, 2017 at the UON Main Campus Nairobi. UNES PARTICIPATES DURING THE UON KISUMU OPEN WEEK ON 13TH -20TH MAY, 2017 AT THE UON KISUMU COMPLEX

The University of Nairobi, Kisumu Campus conducted an Open Week under the theme: Advancing the frontier of Knowledge in the Lake Region. It took place at the Kisumu Campus Complex along Oginga Odinga Street from 13th -20th May 2017. The Open Week formed a crucial interactive platform among different stakeholders from the Lake Region. The event involved participations and exhibitions by the University of Nairobi and other key stakeholders in the private, public and NGO sector.

UNES participated as one of the corporate partners and showcased the key commercial SBUs especially the Consultancy, Hospitality and Bookstores. This was meant to connect UNES to the corporate world both internal and external. During the Marketing Event, UNES presented an award to the UON Library in terms of Book Donation to support the University and also to recognize and uphold the corporate social responsibility as part of its core values. .

UNES CONSULTANCY CONDUCTS TRAINING ON THE ROLE OF SOCIAL MEDIA TO UON CENTRAL ADMINISTRATION STAFF AT THE UON TOWERS THEATER ON FRIDAY 5TH MAY, 2017

Over the past decade, communication methods have changed drastically, with Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, snapchat, whatsup, Foursquare and many such platforms on the go, it comes as no surprise that there is a close connection between social media and clients. It has become the easiest and the fastest way of connecting. However, the question remains of, how can social media influence organizations and institutions performance through engaging their clients and keep tabs on their needs and preferences. It is also evident that social media is an emerging theme in the modern business frontier and is important for firms in different arrays whether public or private owned having a widespread presence online to reach out to their customers and potential clients. Clients are actively sharing, commenting, liking, following all across social media while organizations are going a step ahead to make their presence felt.

UNES Consultancy commenced the training on Friday 5ht May, 2017 with an enriching key note under the theme “The role of social media in an Academic Institution and Effective Digital Communications resulting in Return on Investment”.

The training took place at the UON Towers Theater. It was widely attended by UON Central Administration and to continue in Phases. The second phase of the training under the theme “Security Intelligence and Public Relation” to be conducted on Friday 12th May, 2017 and the Last phase of the training under the theme “Customer Service, Protocol, Etiquette and Public Affairs” to be concluded on Friday 19th May, 2017
