OVERVIEW

UNES Ltd is seeking to fill in the positions of Lead Electronic Medical Records Developer and Electronic Medical Records Developer with qualified and highly competent individuals to join the Health IT Project Team. Health IT is a USAID funded Project that seeks to build capacity for the Ministry of Health and Implementing partners. The project is involved in the development and maintenance of health systems with the aim of strengthening quality of data.

Location:  Nairobi with travels within Kenya

    Contract Duration: 2 Years

JOB DESCRIPTION

Reporting to the Lead EMR developer, the roles and responsibilities of the EMR Developer include:

  1. Develop key EMR modules by extending the capabilities of existing EMR frameworks such as OpenMRS by contributing code directly to the core application, building applications, and creating forms, reports and other tools.
  2. Employ best practices for agile software development methodologies for rapid development, ensuring short feedback loops, ensure user centered design and produce system that meets user specifications.
  3. Develop responsive and dynamic system in accordance with system acceptance criteria and ensuring adherence to set quality assurance (QA) standards.
  4. Review test results and improve the system (database, application, business process) with a view to optimizing the system for efficiency in performance and usability.
  5. Support system implementation working with MOH at both national and county levels.
  6. Provide technical support to MOH (national, county, health facilities) through the dedicated service desk
  7. Properly and appropriately document system by developing and disseminating both technical and user documentation.
  8. Providing mentorship to junior developers and interns
  9. Contribute to software development activities on other relevant information systems
  10. Build and enhance capacity of national, county, health facility and partner capacity to install, deploy and use EMR systems.

JOB SPECIFICATIONS

  1. Bachelor’s Degree in Software Engineering, Computer Science, Information Technology or equivalent
  2. Proven experience and professional training in software development
  3. Proven technical ability to lead implementation of enterprise information systems and processes
  4. Excellent problem-solving skills
  5. Ability to work in integrated teams as well as personal drive and motivation
  6. Previous experience in development and implementation of OpenMRS EMR is as added advantage

KEY COMPETENCIES AND PROFICIENCIES FOR THE POSITIONS:

  1. Java/J2EE web application development, including Spring and Hibernate
  2. Linux, Git, Docker, Puppet, Ansible, Vagrant, and related DevOps/deployment tools
  3. SQL and NoSQL database development, scripting and optimization
  4. Advanced Javascript knowledge with Vuejs, Angular or React
  5. In depth of OpenMRS with understanding of latest OpenMRS Frameworks
  6. Web server management and optimization
  7. Understanding of Health Information Exchange standards such as SDMX HD, HL-7
